Dance, eat, stand. Repeat.

This is for those who don't know about THON.

Me with a four DIAMOND symbol

When you glance at the picture above, you might see a symbol my hand is forming. No no, I know it sounds crazy but that's not a triangle, it's a DIAMOND.

Every year students of Pennsylvania State University come together and organize this amazing event named THON. Thousands of students work together for the greater cause. They dance, eat, stand, and sing for the entire 46 hours.

Probably, now you would be wondering, "what are these students, crazy?" The answer is yes, we are crazy mad at the infectious disease, cancer, that takes away thousands of children each year. Away from their family, friends, and earth. Therefore, we all stand FOR THE KIDS.

THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. The mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness, and ensure funding for critical research - all in pursuit of a cure.

We know we cannot save the kids from the infectious disease but we can definitely raise enough money for the doctors and researchers to do their research to end the disease. Like a company relies on its employees, parents can rely on THON for paying their hospital bills.

We stand for 46 hours in the celebration of raising millions of dollars for the kids, inviting families and children. There are hundreds of organizations on campus that contribute by raising money for their families.

In terms of THON, dancing doesn't mean actually dancing to songs rather stand for the families and children who suffer through Cancer. 46 hours for everyone to forget that there is a word exists that can take away happiness from any family and rather just embrace the moment with everyone.

Each organization selects four to five dancers to represent the organizations and the families. Those dancers stand for the entire 46 hours. To keep those dancers energetic a few concerts, dances, and games are played.

Me and my awesome committee

There are thousands of committee which help in the perfect execution of the event. Along with different organizations coming forward, holding their letters and representing themselves for supporting their dancers.

This is a very emotional and crucial time for the families and kids. Because at the end of the day, it reminds us how much Cancer has affected so many families and will continue to if we don't act on it quickly.

Cancer has ruined lives of so many. Therefore, Penn State had taken an oath to help those families. And so have I. Stand for 46 hours and I promise it will change your life because it did mine.

So, if you ever want to do something good by sitting home? Maybe make a little donation for the kids at https://thon.org

We hope we can put an end to this disease so that everyone can live freely :)
